One more reason Bono rocks
First - thanks to Joy Bringer and Matthew for the hot tip.
As part of Yahoo's Yahoo! Answers series, Bono and a number of other world leaders are asking serious questions -- looking to us for serious answers.
Bono's question: "What can we do to make poverty history?"
"Because of people like you, leaders of the world's richest countries met in July 2005 and made a number of historic promises to help end the kind of extreme poverty that is needlessly killing 9,000 people a day in Africa. Millions of lives and the future of a continent are at stake." -- Bono

Two suggestions I have to participate in this Integral being's game:
1) Join ONE Campaign - The Campaign to [act as one] Make Poverty History
2) Stay tuned to Bono's new completely integral creation ==> (RED) <==
(RED) was created by Bono and Bobby Shriver to raise awareness and money for The Global Fund by teaming up with the world's most iconic brands to produce (PRODUCT) RED branded products. A percentage of each (PRODUCT) RED product sold is given to The Global Fund. The money helps women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa.
The products aren't in the U.S. yet but I'm patiently(!) holding out for the (RED) Amex.
How to Eat an Elephant in Zion NP
We just returned from a 5 day trip to Zion National Park in Utah. Known for its narrow canyons and tall sandstone cliffs it is one of my favorite places on the planet
Zion, which is an ancient Hebrew word meaning a place of refuge or sanctuary has always been that for me.... Somewhere between the magnificence and tranquility that is Zion NP I always leave a re-new-ed person. And, this time was no exception.
Danay and I were hiking the famed Angels Landing trail. Because of the heavy sun, sheer(!) cliffs and steady and aggressive climb this trail isn't recommended for the faint at heart, children or anyone fearful of heights.
Not a part of those groups, we took to it with the usual gusto - but soon learned that 'sheer' meant 1-10 foot wide foot-holds on the edge of the cliff - w/o railings. As I first looked at these steps (and these and these) and considered how/if I could make the last 0.5 mile climb I (quite frankly) could only think about how I might fall. However, somehow I began to climb -- step by step and before long I was quite a ways up the trail. I paused to notice how far I'd come and experienced (possibly for the first time ever) the truth to the adage "how do you eat an elephant?"
One bite at a time of course! But while I've known the answer for years I experienced it in my life on that climb. Contemplating my options at the base of the 'treacherous' section, climbing Angels Landing was impossible! HOWEVER, taking it literally one bite (step) at time altered my perception of the climb from very scarey to simple and fun.
As I reflect on it now, what changed was what I was focusing -- from how could I climb all of these dangerous stairs to how do I get to the next step? And, it was very easy to take each step.
I often stick myself in the big picture of things and miss out on the contribution I can make or the joy I can experience by simply living what the next best/highest action there is for me to take. I'm excited about what this will open up in my life...
Integral Politics Dialogue
There's a great new post on kenwilber.com about integral politics and the best part is that there's a free feed to a recent Integral Naked conversation between Ken and John Mackey, the CEO of Whole Foods.
Check it out and let me know what you think.
Burn victims - Inspirational photos
Found these photos of burn victims on Flikr that are completely touching. The photographer writes:
"In 2001 I met a burn survivor who allowed me to photograph her. She told me that she wanted to be photographed so that people could stare at her without feeling embarrassed. It was such an extraordinary experience that a few months later I flew to a burn conference and set up a makeshift studio in a hotel room, and asked people to let me know if they would like their portraits made. Visit his post for more..."
Integral Institute
Danay and (proudly) just became members of Integral Institute!!
While in many ways this was an easy and obvious choice for me - because of the amount of valuable content I've enjoyed at Integral Naked - it was a bigger decision.... and, a long step forward into (a) committing to an integral lifestyle and (b) giving back to (the source of) something I richly benefit from.
